Question by Freddi-la: What do you do if a friend is having suicidal thoughts?
My friend (I promise it’s NOT me), has recently told me that she has been having suicidal thoughts. What should I do to help her?

I Get Suicidal thoughts but don’t have the will to carry them out. I feel very slightly depressed but not enough to warrant these thoughts.
The depression is due to many reason but mainly i feel despair and a feeling of trying to escape from the way i am now but not yet to the point of suicide but with thoughts leaning towards the idea,

Do you think that you might be interested objectively in the idea of suicide? Not personally, but the concept of it.
Is the depression due to another reason entirely? What do you think it is?

Why does it happen and why can’t it be fixed, doesn’t antidepressants causing suicidal thoughts defeat the purpose?
it says that a rare side affect is suicidal thoughts so I just wanted to know what chemical in the medicine or whatever it is, actually triggers those suicidal thoughts.

Antidepressants trick your brain into thinking that it’s producing more of a certain hormone (i think it’s called serotonin) than there actually is. Now from what I’ve heard from my friends, they sometimes don’t do the job, and i guess they either don’t do anything or have an opposite effect.
Though don’t take my word for it, but i do have a few friends that take antidepressants and other medications.

Question by : What would happen if someone mentioned suicidal thoughts to a school social worker?
What would happen to a person if they told a social worker at their school that they had suicidal thoughts and that they cut. I guess the social worker would have to report it, but who would she report it to and what would happen to that person? Ive heard theyd be sent to the hospital and if thats true what happens there. Just curious not about me

Assuming this is under american law, than likely they would have whats called a 5150 hold placed on them. Thats a 72 hour observation in a psyche hospital where they are counseled by a psychiatrist and are determined whether or not they are a danger to self or others, medication may or may not be advised and prescribed.
Otherwise they are usually referred to a therapist under court sanction and expense.
